We have repeatedly stated our position with the local news media. We will give credit, when credit is due. In this case we are giving a "HATS OFF" to Mr Terry Turner for this weeks editorial in his newspaper.(1/29/09)
The truth is that the Knox Community School Corporation has SEVERE issues that the public needs to know. These issues go further than the Nathan Marcum issue but in reality there are several other problems brewing.
If there was a one word description of the Knox School Corporation it would be "BULLY" and we do not even need to mention the name of the Bully Ringleader. Yes we took the gloves off and we said it!
The above terminology will probably offend some but as Terry Turner stated, "looking inward at themselves" and we agree why now? why not back before the election do we have this long winded and put you to sleep letter? The truth is the reason that this was not brought up during the election was that someone thought that Nathan did not have a chance in winning. ( Boy I guess he proved them wrong!!)
Lets also discuss the real losers of this ordeal. That is our Community and our Children in the Knox Schools. The teachers are losing in this as well. It would seem to me that it would be a smarter move to put our tax dollars in bringing the BEST and BRIGHTEST Teachers as well as RETAINING THE BEST AND BRIGHTEST TEACHERS THAT WE ALREADY HAVE! Pay them a rewarding wage and benefit package that they DESERVE! Perhaps they will stay and focus on these kids!- No we will wage tax dollars on legal battles!
Simple Solution- Seat Nathan and allow him to continue his career with the JESSE. Make him sign the same conflict of interest as Harold and Jerry. There would be no conflict of interest as Nathan would not be a sole decision maker- He would be one person and one voice on that board. It would be of his character and morals to break any executive/public confidence. That is why you have a quorum when you conduct meetings- so him being a Supervisor of his Supervisor would be a mute point. I think that Nathan would by far be able to seperate his role in a professional manner. Taxpayers need to ask this question- What is really going on? and Why?
Just to name a few, you have drug abuse, students committing crimes, teen pregnancy... need we go on? Why don't we address programs and job skills that will build a future of prosperity. We also need to bring an updraft of Students who move up and go onto college. We should be looking to teaching our kids that working hard will guarantee them success and not show them the route that things come easy or its acceptable to make excuses.
Another final Note is... The Knox School Board needs to do a much better job in the Public Relations Department. The goal should be to work even harder to close the widening gap of Parent-Teacher-Student Relations.

Does Financial Parnters still handle the School's investing/retirement funds? I think Harold Welter's office handled those matters in the past.

Hello...has anyone noticed this is a small town? You can't throw a rock without hitting someone that someone in a position of "power" is related to. Who cares? I read both editorials (out of a paper I saw sitting in a trash can, by the way) and there is no reason that Marcum should be the boss of his boss. Example, Shirley Budka. She was the secretary at OD for years, and quit BEFORE running for school board and winning. How is it that SHE knew the proper protocol and he doesn't. Because women are more sensible and men are trying to always find a way "around" the system? It's not the school board's responsibility to say who should or shouldn't run, it's logic. It's their job to say who can and can't serve. And isn't the JESSE program available in other schools? Why not change your location then keep both positions? Also, who's the idiot that says they should stop hiring crack-pot women? THAT is what is wrong with this county, you chauvinistic ass. I think Turner shot himself in the foot, and will be out of business within the year. Don't bite the hand that feeds you and if you're in the media, where are you going to get your news if all you're going to do is piss people off? I guess he can still have an audience on this blog. I hear from around town, Jim Condon is looking to possibly come back to the area. I've also heard maybe Julie Berndt. Then I heard that Glen Barnes is a favorite. I think it will be someone who has a past connection or current connection to the school. Harold is pulling hard for Glen Barnes though.
If that's the case, it's not right to have Glenn Barnes considered! Would Harold step aside from voting if that's the case??! Markham couldn't get in, and this should follow suit: conflict of interest!

That's why he's now going through yet another divorce. He just hasn't learned yet... why get married if you plan to still sleep with your students... you only end up paying down the road. The only reason anyone likes Marcum is because they think the school board screwed them and no matter what you will complain about the school board. If he were on the board you'd hate him more than anyone. He is an annoying know-it-all who doesn't get his facts straight before he runs his mouth. Remember when he was telling people about the students who got arrested? Too bad the kids he mentioned had nothing to do with it and weren't even questioned by the cops!
terry turner is a fine individual and anything he has to say is right on. he works hard even facing medical problems. it's amazing he's still going and working hard to be factual for the news and truth for his town. the newshawk remains simple and informing.
