Last I checked, he's a working individual and as long as he has money to pay for it out right, or can be financed through a bank, he's just as entitled to drive a vehicle like the rest of you! A $30,000 appropriation is NOT financing a truck for 5 years. The county does not plan a budget for 5 years. Spend and Tax-Tax and Spend Starke County!
The surveyor's truck is in need of major repair. Mark didn't have a lot of work done to it. Some repairs have been done, but there is more that needs to be done and some of it is not cheap. What do you people do when your vehicle breaks? You get it fixed don't you? Maybe the system might work. We all need to watch and make sure it happens right. That is why we have watchdog groups and blogs isn't it?

If some of you had any brains at all you would know the surveyor isn't getting a new truck. Why don't you do something smart and get the facts. I know why, because it would make to much sense.
I will say this, I have no problem with the county to supply Mr Estok with a truck to perform his job as the county surveyor of record. I have no problem with that at all as long as it is not a new one. I just opened up a repair shop, My shop rates are less than anyone in the county as far as I know, because I am working with the average working person, and I can still make a few bucks. We are fair and honest, and have found that in the other business I operate Godmudders, Custom Trucks,( www.Godmudders,com )I had set a standard on honesty and professional workmanship. Take a look at the testimonials. I am a accredited heavy/medium duty truck technician and was certified by ASE ( automotive service excellence ). In times like this we need to start fixing things, not just buying new on credit, or on the thought we will have money to buy something. I say fix the truck Mark Mackillop drove. If its not worth fixing, give the man a vehicle that the county owns, and let him make due. I ran for surveyor and lost. If I had won, I felt I would need a vehicle to travel in the county to perform the work necessary for county business. From what I had seen in the past, a Honda civic would be fine. If I had been elected, I also stated that I would be working in the field, I do see then a need for an all wheel drive type vehicle to be able to get out in a non paved area to locate land markers. But remember that would be for someone who is actually going to do something for you the tax payer. That is going beyond what the requirements of the job are. Since the job requirements only entail office type work, the most fuel efficient and economical vehicle is all that is needed. I don't recall any official in any way not able to get from one building to another without the aid of a road. I say if Mr Estok is going to do what I said I was going to do, and that is get out in the field and find the mistakes that have been made, give him Marks old truck, or take one of the one ton Fords the county garage has and let him drive that. This job does not require a Tahoe or Eddie Bauer edition truck or a Cadillac or Lincoln. Now if he wishes to buy a vehicle he wants to drive with his own money, I would still allow for him to claim mileage reimbursement and that would amount to about .25 to .50 cents per mile. That would include his fuel and insurances he must pay on his vehicle. This is easy to do since I am also in the trucking business. We not only pay 10,000 per truck for liability insurance, 2500 per truck and trailer for comprehensive insurance, 3200 per truck for tractor plate, 20 per trailer plate and then the IFTA (fuel tax per gallon) between .16 to .43 additional on top of our fuel cost at the pump. Now you can add the cost of SCAC, USDOT, MC,TWIC numbers. This is just the costs truckers face today, and its the few of us who have held out for a fair hauling rate, that we exist. Its called good business, and it is a struggle today. Now the reason I went there in the last few sentences. Many of us today are struggling with making ends meet in today's economy because of high costs and no jobs that pay a living wage. It is our government that has gone out of control with spending, prime example. Bike trails, town revitalization grants are just money pissed up aside a tree. Sorry the truth is the truth. We need our infrastructure fixed. Start repairing and building new roads. Start repairing and building new water systems, sewer systems. This is the only thing Government needs to do other than themselves take a cut in pay like we the tax payer has. I have watched how this government operation has handled it self in the past five years. This is not the Daley machine and I mean the old man Daley. He got things done. There is 3 mil of people who can afford the extra pork that was done, because it comes down to the tax payer as pennies on the dollar. Not like here where Starke county makes blundering moves, like misplacing a mil in cash, buying equipment at top dollar price for used crap and only about 23,000 people to cover this. I have been fighting this county for five years on a couple of issues. I have proven my point on the survey deal with old records, guess what I was right, I was told I was right by Mark Mackillop and the county attorney Martin Bedrock in a meeting with them about the property issues in San Pierre. I asked just one question, Since we know it is all screwed up, why didn't we fix it. The answer no one knows how. My answer. Hire someone that knows what they are doing. I have spent 5 years along with my father proving this is all screwed up. This county through the years has pissed away so much money on actual survey companies for shoddy, incorrect work, and paid out top dollar in tax payers money to get us where we are today. I have invested over 30,000 in proving I own 40 feet of property that I had bought when I moved here. The 40 feet in question has a building on it that restricted me from operating my repair shop because of property set back requirements. I had also done some further looking onto the property problems here to find the Church of Shilo was also in conflict. Now one person here purchased land and had to give it up to another because of this same crap and this was handled by a county attorney Mr Dodge at the time. This was also our attorney at the beginning. We chose a different attorney because we felt we were getting sold out. Well I now ask you the tax payer how you feel about this, probably nothing since it doesn't affect you at this time. Remember this its you the tax payer that is going to have to cover the costs to put this back correct and to its original layout caused by people who make big money, who are politically tied in or to the county. Once again another county blunder. I do know the process to get my money back for damages as far as the costs for me to prove I was right, but no one realizes what I am entitled to as far as restriction of trade for the five years that I was not able to perform my normal way of life as a repair or customizing business because of a property line that was incorrect and no one in the county cared. Business as usual let the people bring suit. When I left Illinois to come here, I was paid well from Cook County for a similar problem I am having here for violation of civil rights. My business on its worst year was half a mil. This county denied me the right to perform my business with its red tape bureaucratic policies with an incorrect survey. Maybe that is why our taxes are high, we pay for mistakes and our progress is nothing. I will say this, I do think most of the general public here has a kind heart and are respectable. It was time for change, and we chose the same old people that are going to bury us if we can't seem to find the time to put our tax paying feet down on how some of our officials act and spend our money. You may think its a waste of time to try and argue a good point. We drive on unsafe ice covered pot hole filled roads. Why? because we have no money. WHY? you have already raped us tax payers and you lost that, supposedly. I called for accountability. That time is now. If I commit a crime, I pay the price, our officials should be held at the very least double what the general public is liable for since they have the access and know the law. I am going to sit back and just watch some more. I am not sorry for what I have said, because it is the truth. The truth can also hurt.

I think the majority of people in the world have used their current work's equipment to take care of personal matter. Just because he's Dennis Estok he's in the wrong? I do this all the time. I fax things for my husband, we get lunch menus faxed to our office... so should you start blasting me then? Or because you don't know me and aren't jealous of me, that's why you can't say anything. Or running his personal business from the city office. So you mean to tell me you've never taken a personal phone call while on the clock at work? You mean to tell me that your cell phone has never been answered while on the job. You've never picked up the office phone and called in a pizza so that way when you're ready to leave at the end of the day, you can pick up the family dinner and head straight home. I don't buy that. Hey, if you have the skill to take an ugly ass piece of "house" around this area and pretty it up- which sometimes with rental property, you aren't making a whole lot of money. You figure the costs it takes to repair the house just to get it in living condition, times the low rent amount for this area. I'm sure the neighbors of these previously foreclosed homes aren't complaining. Once they are fixed up and look pretty decent, that only increases the value of their own property. So really, people that do this for a living and income, help others along the way. You only wish you could make a decent living doing something like that. But did you ever stop to think the stress it is of being a landlord? The infamous excuses of why the rent is late, the 9:30 pm phone call of the water line just broke, the calls from the neighbor that your rentor has junk all over the yard.. Not only that, but what you have to find or crawl through when their lease is up and they leave nothing but undesirable living conditions for you to have to clean up.

I have sat back now since April of 2008 and read your snarky comments about me on your blog, I’ve been a bigger person and let it slide, despite the lack of correct facts you keep spewing out all over the internet, despite the money the company you work for has cost me but I’ll be damned if I’m going to sit here and allow it to go on anymore. If you aren’t man enough to face me and say these things to my face then I’ll bring myself to you. Plan on seeing me in your place of “employment” some time this week where I’ll be speaking with your manager and if you’re man enough by then, you’re welcome to join us where you can say to my face all the crap you find amusing to post on an internet blog., because the next step I take will have you in court for slander. For instance I can’t read, for instance, I don’t know how to install a fuel filter, for instance I don’t know how to install a plug in ignition switch. Fact I never touched this filter, Mitchell Trucking installed it after they questioned your store help about it because it did not have a drain plug on it, other than that, it looked to be a correct fit. Fact, your store help confirmed that this is the correct filter for the application once again to Mitchell Trucking who was doing our truck maintenance since we were to busy refurbishing other equipment in our shop Fact the company - Peterbilt had to fix the problem, and their diagnosis was the filters you sold us for the application was an incorrect part number in your NAPA filter application book for a primary fuel filter. The filter fits fine, seals fine. Problem is, it will split and spray fuel everywhere or collapse and starve fuel to the pump and damage the pump if any water is present. Well ,we all know, all fuel has some minute amount of water in it from just condensation. NAPA sends out notices of correction all the time. Maybe you or others in your store should have read them, because Peterbilt called the Napa store in Flagstaff AZ and found that the same filers you sold us had a notice of warning that this filter is not to be used as a primary fuel filter. So this reverts back to NAPA of KNOX not reading up dates. Where is this my fault? I am the bad guy because I legitimately deducted two extremely expensive emergency road service calls from our monthly bill to cover the costs incurred to me by your filters that you have insurance to cover problems like this. I deducted about 750 bucks to cover my costs. I spent a lot of money with you people, but not anymore. Fact, I am not having any problems now with other parts stores I am dealing with. Tony you act as if I took food off your table. Well if you were the one who sent the filters, and your boss took it out of your pay, I am tickled pink.
Now on to the humble remark. Lets get it right. Rabid Dog is more like it. I can toot my horn for things I have accomplished. I would respect anyone who toots their horn on a good thing as long as its Fact not fiction.
Now on to the Dennis Estok deal. I don't care what vehicle he gets. If the counties obligation is to supply him with one, that is what they need to do. I didn't see any provision that the vehicle for surveyor had to be a certain type. First off, can this county balance its check book with a positive balance. Now with that said, have we found the missing money? Have we found all the equipment we purchased? Have we found out where allot of our equipment has gone? Do we have any money to work with? Can we pay debts we owe on? Does our county even have the money to pay mileage on a vehicle Dennis purchases with his own money? When I started as a truck driver many many moons ago. I was told to drive the truck I was issued. As long as it was safe, I had no say so. If it was a Peterbilt like my company owns, and Cadillacs of the industry. Or if it was a chrome plated turd Volvo which in my opinion a junk. I really don't understand what the problem is here. I have yet to see a vehicle fix a survey problem, but I have seen intelligent people that can.

Well tony thanks for the speedy reply, Something doesn't add up here. You say you don't know me and you wish me well. Your personal blog says I can't read and don't know how to put a filter on. The only way you would know anything about the filter situation is to work for NAPA because that is where the problem started. I have spoke to the people of NAPA where you work, and they didn't seem to happy about my complaint. We have collected and printed all defamatory or slanderous remarks about me from your little blog site and other sights about Me Steven Schrader who is running for surveyor and I can't read since I don't know how to install a filter that I never touched. I don't have a problem stating what I do because I have FACTS. I had supposedly won the surveyors position according to a few politicians who claimed all my votes were not entered. This is hearsay. There is no FACTS to prove this. I don't care about it. It is water under the bridge. I am not going to waste my money or the tax payers money to argue the situation. It appears to me you and Dennis are good friends or related the way you have praised him. This is your opinion. I have no opinion of Dennis Estok. I hope he can fix the problems with surveys in the county, that is his job now. The issue here was about what he gets to drive, not if I know how to lick an ice cream cone. Humble I am not. I said the same thing about Tony. It's obvious in what you type and say. There's nothing wrong with that. When you sign up to run for a position, clearly you want to win the position. So when you don't, there's always going to be those hard feelings. What I think is beyond dumb... was that you felt the need to tell Tony's employer that he says bad things about you? Sorry to anyone who every commented on a blog. But I still am not the one doing all this blog writing. I think when anyone who does write, does so on their own behalf and not the behalf of their employer, business or a group of people they are involved with. Weather you sign your name or not, there is a freedom to speak your opinion. Sometimes we all do or say things we shouldn't until it to late or someone thinks we say them but we don't. Hard to say. Anyway, sometimes I put things together wrong. Life goes on.
I am not going to argue this anymore, I have printed material to back my claim. To show what kind of a man I am. A simple apology, remove the posts about me and this may just all go away. Yes I did throw things back in some peoples face, I have every right to when I am defending my self and reputation. He opened a new repair shop and here comes this guy from a parts store yapping about how he can't put an oil filter on, it may seem petty to a lot of people but lets face it, anyone on this blog is within driving distance of his place and now theres a good chance that they won't patronize his shop based in what looks to be incorrect information in an internet blog. You say that he is messing with someones job, well thats what was done to him by insinuating that he can't even put an oil filter on. Having dealt with a few jerks in my life I can't say I blame the guy if he's been through the crap he says he has and if he had the guts to fight for whats right and won, who is to begrudge him that? Does he think this is the only blog in America that talks about people? Hell no. It's all OPINION BASED. Could he sue like Wikipedia for posting that he doesn't know how to change oil filters and yada yada yada, sure. He probably would actually win there if he does know how to do that. Because that's a FACTS based website. This website is nothing fact related. It is all hear-say. That's what blogs are. All I can say is good luck to him. Everybody is talking about wasting money.What about all the wasted tax credits and abatements to get the useless toll brothers plant in knox.They never lived up to any of their promises to the employee's the county or the state.layed employee's off and then brought them back a while later but with no insurance,benefits,sick days or vacation.In my opinion they are one of the worst home builders to ever come to this area.Also the plant manager is a major problem there.He has no experience at all.Except for shutting down plants he is good at that.
This is why, crossing your fingers it actually does happen, when Sysco comes in, they shouldn't have this problem. Everyone gets all crappy when it's delayed and whatnot. But the company is actually smart! They're watching the economy, they are watching the production rates at their other locations before investing millions into another warehouse. You have plants in Elkhart, Michiana area that have had their doors open for years and out of nowhere, are forced to lay people off.
