This was listed in our last posting, Pretty relevant to today's breaking news. Since WKVI wont post this, maybe this will get posted here.
We have a list of questions from what appears to be an official report from the State Board of Accounts-
This was posted back in June- Its now August? Why so long?

What does overstated really mean? Would that mean someone is reporting money that is not really there?

Several posting errors were made in the County Treasurer's Daily Balance and Cash Depositories
Record, Form 47. The Treasurer had accumulated 133 individual errors totaling $1,102,670 at the
end of November 2009 which were corrected in January 2010 before the records were closed for 2009.
At December 31, 2009, the Treasurer's total of all Ledger Accounts Cash Funds balance was understated
$636,618 and the undistributed tax collections were overstated by approximately the same amount due to
not posting license excise tax and other undistributed funds properly at settlement.
The County Treasurer's Monthly Financial Reports, Form 47TR were not completed in a timely
manner throughout 2009. January through June reports were not completed until October 2009. July's
report was not completed until November 2009, August through October reports were not completed until
December 2009, and November and December reports were not completed until January 2010.
At all times, the manual and/or computerized records, subsidiary ledgers, control ledger, and
reconciled bank balance should agree. If the reconciled bank balance is less than the subsidiary or control
ledgers, then the responsible official or employee may be held personally responsible for the amount
needed to balance the fund. (Accounting and Uniform Compliance Guidelines Manual for County
Treasurers, Chapter 10)
Officials and employees are required to use State Board of Accounts prescribed or approved
forms in the manner prescribed. (Accounting and Uniform Compliance Guidelines Manual for County

the wheels of government do move way to slow. however, the state board of accounts want to make sure that they have everything in order. come on, we're only looking at 2009. it's not that long ago. it was about march when linda told the commissioners she had a check from last year. surprising that the previous auditor didn't see anything out of line for 2009 and 2010.

Exactly. The Auditor is there to monitor the Treasurers actions, which the Commissioners oversee all. This scandal goes back to 2009, but ACTUALLY was going on long before that. It was RAMPANT! Kevin Kroft was hell-bent to place as many office budgets into the highway garage budget as possible,...offices that had NO RELATIONSHIP to the garage. Then, 2 suicides(?) later, & their corruption exposed, Kroft disappears, quits coming to meetings, doesn't even run for election again..NOTHING. Yet he was a Commissioner AND County Garage Supervisor at the time, & was responsible for overseeing ALL the corruption problems that took place...YET NOBODY HELD HIM RESPONSIBLE. Is this a secret brotherhood thing or what? Linda Belork was claiming that something was wrong & nobody listened. Yet, when the problem is exposed, they want to blame her. I have no idea if she's innocent or not, but this has all the signs of a Total cover-up. And ironically enough, Mark Smith takes the helm at resolving this matter as quietly as possible AGAIN. We all work hard to pay our property taxes, & with that funding the majority of offices, we don't take kindly to THIEVES stealing it. The Treasury Dept. should've cleaned house of all the offices even remotely associated with this. I can think of so many things Knox & Starke Co. needs, so to think we can't dream, or act because we have THIEVING SCOUNDRELS in office is just plain SICK! You might scoff at the idea of getting caught, but I can assure you that "what you sew is what you reap", & you all will pay for your wrong-doing. So keep laughin & cashin your tax-payer checks, for the bell will toll soon enough.
I think the scandal goes back even further. There was something going on but why doesnt the FBI get involved? The investigation exposed the highway superintendent and the foreman for petty small claims stuff. There is something more and it has to stop.
Why does Nathan Chambers get to ride around on a motorcycle with out a license to drive a motor cycle? He also drives his cars with out a plate.Is he above the law or does he not care about the law?
the treasurer knows how to use a computer yet chose to do her job with pencil and paper. seems this would be a good way to hide things.

This goes back to the Kevin Kroft, Mark Milo, Kent Danford days as Commissioners. In looking back, was that not the 3 biggest idiot crooks to ever serve together? But Mark Smith smoothed it over...like he is now. They cleaned the cupboard just before they left & people are just starting to find all this out. When this firm comes in to investigate Treasurers Office, then we as citizens, WILL hire them with OUR TAX$ to fully investigate all the MISSING MONEY!

I tried to leave a posting 3 times on the wkvi website and they wont post it (which I will explain why I think they won't)
I think wkvi has an agenda of their own, which is why I am prompted to write what I am going to write. They do not want to tell you anything controversial, or anything without having their own bias or spin attached to it. What got me started was reading the article on 10/12, about the Republican Candidate blasts opponent for Campaigning at a Breakfast. I read the article and said that is not all that happened, or said at that meeting. This had such a spin on it that I could not believe it. In reading that article, it made me think that Mr. Morin is plainly a blow hard jerk. However, he posted on the discussion board, and he signed his name to it. After reading it, I realized this, that here we have a person that is stepping up to question EVERYTHING, Not business as usual, Fight for what is right, fight for what needs to be done. He thanked the fire and police for their service. He is merely questioning that politics and the service these men and women provide are not compromised. His opponenet said that "he only did what was traditionally done" Which is easily refuted by saying that traditionally there is always some sort of scandal or wrong doing. From the Surveyor, Treasurer, Commissioner, not to mention all of the tradition of the nepotism factor, fires, and cover ups. WKVI, then blocked the comments from being made to this particular story. Why?
What can be said is simply this, always remember the source, and question everything, never believe anything you hear. Before you vote in this election. If you are happy and complacent, then so be it, vote for the same thing. If you want change, then ask the questions and find out the answers.
How come no one brings up that Judy Benninghoff is Linda Belork's sister- (which they have)
But- The reason why she is defending her sister is because she too worked in the treasurer's office as a deputy. Question the two lucrative offices- dual office holders guide. Of Course she is going to defend her sister. The Fact is this, Linda Did NOT balance her books daily, and that usually has nothing to do with what the auditor has- it is simple accounting- you have credits, and debits- both mean opposite of what your regular check book is. You take from one side as well as the other, so they both balance. That did not happen for 2 whole years. So at this point it does not make a difference if they found the money, the fact is that Linda could not find it, especially when you keep someones check in the desk for a year.
What Linda should do is this, She should resign and give up her appeal. She is just as innocent as Mark Milo was.

Tom's Tire moved to his shop at his home. He's at 500 E and 550 N (railroad st). The shop is behind the house. It had nothing to do with the Neva, he just had a good offer on his building and he could cut his overhead. Stop by and get a oil change or some new tires.

How come WKVI doesnt post this? This makes total sense as to why the commissioners removed the treasurer? Seems to me that by reading this that she wasnt doing her job.
If you read through the archives of WKVI, you can see why the voting public is confused and why they think only 33 cents is unaccounted for. This is why people need to vote for competant people.
WKVI won't post comments that question the Hospital or County.
The Hospital gives them too much money in advertising. They are too buddy-buddy with the Commissioners.

Everyone of you would throw out that nonsense its only 30 cents. Instead, you all would be throwing a fit of rage, with your arms up in the air, crying about the injustice.
What is with our new prosecutor? We have made a HUGE mistake. He knows nothing. He is never at work. Nobody gets to talk to him. He has to be led around the nose by the courts and police. He runs as a democrat and hires a big time republican as deputy and then immediately fires him because of a conflict (known of course to everybody else in the world BEFORE he hired him). He then hires as deputy a person who worked for his opponent after he campaigned that his opponent including the deputy were doing such a lousy job. Then he hires a new deputy - an old high school something or other - who has even less experience and knows even less than than he does - which is really a hard thing to say.

Well, from what I have read here, there certainly are some legitimate concerns. The question is, what are we, the people, going to do about it? Or, what CAN we do about it? I would like to add another concern to the pile. How many of you are aware of the "beatings" by our so called law enforcement agencies? How is this justified? I'm told there are a number of lawsuits being processed against the city and county. Does anyone know anything about this? If so, please post. I just heard of it last week. If it's true, are we really safe on the streets when the local police, are beating people half to death? I fear for my children to ever be arrested for anything. They will be beat, tried and convicted BEFORE ever going to trial. What a mess our community is in!

I agree. Ted Hayes has been buddies with the leaders of the hospital since the days of Kathy Norem. Now there's a name. What good did she do the hospital and NOW she's running the county? When its big names such as Starke Hospital or the schools, you will hear no negativity from Ted Hayes or WKVI; however, when it's the little people of the community, you will see and hear lie after lie reported. Amazing, isn't it? I guess they feel the little people can't hurt them like the big businesses can.

One of the commissioners who harrass everyone in the annex office is running again, do we really want someone like that back in office again. Vote wisely the county needs a change of commissioners. This is a true statement if you were at the meetings you know how he was harassing people.
Are you talking about the Commissioner who announced at his Party meeting just a few short weeks ago that he tried to take his name off the ballot and that he would refuse to take office if re-elected because he was asked to provide proper receipts for the highway’s scrap? Judging from the hastily erected signs, it looks like he has changed his mind again. In some circles that is called flip flopping. Too late as I already voted for Joe.

WKVI won't post ANY COMMENTS that go against their own personal political beliefs. For 1, I can't believe Kent Danford is going to be a Commish again, especially after He, Kevin Kroft & Mark Milo SCREWED THE COUNTY VERY HARD. And WHY is the Surveyors Office holding meetings to discuss with land owners, the dredging of the Yellow River, when most are at work? If Estok takes out the rapids, it will drop the water level by 2 feet all the way to Plymouth. I guess it's not how intelligent or qualified a person is for a job, but just how many people they know.

The commissioner that said he would not accept if he won the primary. Welcome he got up and gave a flowery speech as to why he was so good for the county and that they needed him. Well I hope that he stands true to not ecepting the position because we need someone new in his spot.

Starke Co is nothing but a bunch of "clicks"...& if you're not in their "click"..then you don't get the attention, or the awards, or even elected into office. And this even goes for the students in school, as I've seen some awards & scholarships go to "popular" kids when, others were far more deserving. Even with people who get off of being charged, or speeding...if you know someone, you get a break, or even dropped. It'll never change.

What ever happened to improving downtown Knox? There was all sorts of meetings last fall (election time) about changing downtown. We'll it summertime and not a thing has been changed! Not surprising. Looking at our city officials. There will be not change in laws or anything. Don't expect a rec center. You might as well as forget that idea. Until officials that can do something, do some, forget it.
Why do we have planters downtown if we do not fill them with flowers? The trees also need mulch or something around them, were is our Mayor? Sometimes I wonder is Chambers Mayor or is Matsey?
Matsey is mayor. Chambers is just his puppet. Just attend a meeting and see who has all the answers to the city's problems. You don't have to stay long, 5 minutes should do.

I really don't understand Knox. Out of all the young teachers we couldn't have brought a homegrown coach before the school board? Maybe with all the hype about the Hatfield's and McCoy's someone wanted to end our rivalry by hiring them as football coach. Instead of getting Devil Anse we got Skunkhead....

Yes, I fully believe Harold Welter needs to step aside from the Knox School Board. He's been there MUCH TOO LONG, & it's DEFINATELY a conflict of interest in that he handles all the retirement accounts for the teachers. I seriously can't believe that is allowed or even tolerated. There needs to be term limits on ALL OFFICES....INCLUDING SCHOOL BOARD!
Matsey's always in the news because he's trying in every way to "brighten" his image for the next election for judge. Personally, I went through a divorce in his court 18 yrs ago, & I was lynched, as I'm sure most males are. But the scenario was, she racked up a credit card hitting hotels with another guy, AFTER we had seperated, which even the dates of use proved it, yet Matsey made me pay all $5,000 of it. Only later did I find out her mother & Matsey's wife worked together & were great friends. Not the kind of "fair-n-honest" guy I want sitting in our judge's seat.
why do you think that Matsey wants to close the knox city court? If he cannot win an election legitimately, he again is doing so by force. If it is eliminated, (hmmm) there would have to be another judge appointed to run the new traffic court in the county court house..

Harold Welter should not even be eligible to serve on the Knox School Board, due to the Conflict of Interest Policy he dearly enforces, for he handles all the investment & retirement accounts for the school corp. ALSO...didn't his son Nathan Welter, avoid Child Seduction(or molestation) charges of having a sexual relationship with a student by vowing to not step on school property ever again...yet...he's back. We are all very appreciative of Mr. Welter's service since being elected in the very 1st school board election in the late 70's, but there are many issues as of late that many in the public do not agree with him upon. The school board was informed & well aware of Mr.Boldry's relationships with female students for over 5 yrs, yet they did NOTHING, & ONLY suspended him WITH PAY after he was charged. I'd think that pay should be suspened as well, & if indeed he's found innocent, then he's eligible for his back pay, but us taxpayers WILL NEVER see that $$$ again. Mrs.Ratliffe was also informed of the many teacher/student sexual relationships, & chose to avoid them as long as possible as well. If that was my child, I would sue the school system for the max amount, for the very people we trust to keep our kids safe, ignored the abuse going on all around them. They should be held accountable just as the PennSt. Board members were, indicted on Neglect Charges. So, is that 4 teachers now? I have also heard of other teachers & higher-up faculty as well, but we'll never see anything done until the police gathers enough evidence to press charges.

I can't consciously vote for any standing board member, in that they all turned the other cheek when faced with the choice of acting on certain child predators, ...AND DID NOTHING! And now, they're letting 1 back into the school system, after he bargained his way out of charges by stating he'd never step on school grounds again...HYPOCRITES!
Actually I think what Harold did is pretty smart. Hes in the election, Hes out of the election, and now back in. He has had some extra publicity that he didnt have to pay for. Not publicly saying that I agree or disagree with his candidacy.. Other candidates should be afforded this same advantage...
The school board is more afraid of lawsuits, which has happened in the recent past, than stepping up right off the bat & doing the right thing. Sad that student/teacher relationships & school board ignorance takes a front seat to students education & improvements needed, broader dual-credit system, etc. Knox school board has dropped the ball every time a sexual relationship has occurred, & either brushed it under the rug, pulled strings for those with "ties to the school", & prefers to refuse to hear/see what's been reported to them. So, it's long overdue that some of these long tenured members need to be voted out, & new, fresh minds with childrens interest be elected. I'm tired of our kids being short changed. We'll support every coach that's hired, but why is it that Knox football always hires coaches that have very little, or no head coaching experience? We undoubtably support all coaches, but why couldn't Knox ever seek out a proven winner. We dislike sacrificing the best years of a students athletic career while coaches learn how to succeed on the job. We ask why other schools/counties look down on Knox, but we put ourselves in that position by setting our own standards. We are better than this, & our kids deserve better. The only way this improves is by honor, integrity, hard work...& raising our standards to whom we desire the kids & us, as a community to be.
after all these months the tax payers get screwed by a judge letter linda go back to work. whoever in indy that told the commissioners they should get rid of her should get fired themselves. o well, at least it's only a couple of months. glad you can still comment here, unlike that other blog wkv
To the last comment, why would Linda not be re-instated. It was proven that she didn't steal the fund's they were found and the mistake did not come from her office and no funds were missing. Even after that was determined she was not re-instated. "Commissioner" Dan Bridegroom plan to take her out of office and then not re-instate her when it was found no money was missing was a great idea. Way to go Bridegroom now your screw up is costing the county alot of money. Let's all remember to vote for him in the November Election.
I find it funny our mayor Rick Chambers, worries about towing rules when he switches license plates from his car to his truck, witch is against the law.
I think the question to ask,instead of singling out one commissioner, you should ask who else was involved in the conspiracy against the treasurer. Hmm, possibly the Auditor? How many people were fired, how many quit.. Maybe those people can enlighten the public.
Funny how with the treasurer stuff going on and the elections that WKVI hasn't published almost anything in days on their blog. Are they afraid of something?? If the treasurer isn't bonded, what happens if there's a problem? WKVI needs to Go. Give us a real radio station!
Of course WKVI won't print anything negative about Ms. Perfect Nancy, BUT, nice how she gets her palace built, that most of the city didn't want, BUT now she's get's her name on it forever. Great, just when we thought we could forget about her, Rick gives her eternity.

Rick, has always been tight with Nancy, Maybe they owe each other something? When Nancy had the community Center built she didn't relize you need to know how to manage the place, it was alawys in the red.
These Commissioners have NO IDEA the amount of paperwork that transpire between the Sheriff's Office, Jail, & the Clerk's Office, & other offices in the Court House. There's NO WAY that all this paperwork can be faxed, so, do they purpose there to be a Clerk's Office vehicle, or are the Deputies going to be running paperwork for all these "online trilas". It's TOTALLY UNPRACTICAL to have the jail that far from the Court House. And WE KNOW Dan Bridegroom & Co. are strong-arming this jail location. I've spoke to alot of people who live nowhere near the proposed location, & they've pointed out many factors that make this choice rediculous. Why didn't they just buy the bakery, the old grey house across the street, block off Pearl to Water St.'s(like Laporte Co. did), save millions in building costs, & millions in operating costs, because that distance is going to cost taxpayers a TON over time. I honestly can't believe that 3 people can make these very high cost decisions without more input from the community. A quick 9:00 a.m. meeting is a total disrepsect to the community, as they know very few can make it. And if WKVI decides to void this comment, I will personally pay for a huge article in the newspaper, & point out how WKVI voids comments that aren't to their liking, though they call themselves the "Voice of the Valley", so practice what you preach. We, THE PEOPLE, aren't happy at all about this choice of location!
you should start this blog again. WKVI really sucks now! they care more about what goes on in La Porte and Plymouth than what goes on in Starke County.
Why were charges filed against Greg Wireman for impersonating a police officer he is an officer. I have seen his badge he has more authority than cops he works for the county with people on house arrest. I dont blame him for ordering the people to be boxed in cops can do that that's what he was doing. THis is great publicity for him and his career. He has been serving our community for years. He was brave to take care of the Kirby sellers

Has anyone seen the drama on Greg Wireman's facebook page? Why is it there is always drama surrounding him. He gets fired from home detention, he gets arrested for impersonating a police offer, he stalks and harasses voters with his brother in law who don't want his sign in their yard and the people have to take restraining orders against him. He attacks all other candidates for no good reason, the other candidates leave him alone because they know he is just a big fat pathetic piece of trash and isn't a threat to them and has no chance to be sheriff. I think someone must have misinformed you about Mr. Strong he was not demoted. He and his wife have moved back to our community to finish raising their children. After school many people move away from the hometown for their career but a strong sense of small community life, friendship, and family quite often brings them home. I am happy to see that such a decorated officer is stepping up to run for sheriff. He has some big shoes to fill, Mr. Cowen has done such a wonderful job but I am sure he will be able to make us all proud. If anyone has a number for him I would appreciate I would like to make a campaign contribution to help him get his campaign kick started the sheriff's department would benefit from the strong Republican leadership Mr. Strong would bring with him. In addressing the rest of your comments Mr. Wireman there are several of your previous female companions that could attest to the fact you are abusive. Your leadership board that you speak of is something that carries no merit and frankly high schoolers attend, how old are you. I posses video footage of an officer on duty pulling up, turning their lights out, and removing a sheriff candidates sign from its location and tossing it on the ground. Then drive off like no one would see..
I think its pretty unprofessional to do this and I have a pretty good idea as to who this officer supports versus who they do not.
I have a brighter side to all of this, I am going to post this after the election because I do not want to impact the election.
